Jenna Ortega, the breakout star of Netflix's Wednesday, has announced her departure from Twitter, citing the platform's inability to regulate AI-generated content that targets underage users.

In an interview with The New York Times, Ortega revealed that she was inundated with disturbing AI-generated images of herself as a teenager, prompting her to delete her account. "Here's the thing: AI can be used to do incredible things," she said. "But seeing edited content of myself as a kid? That's horrible. That's corrupt. That's wrong."

Ortega, who began her acting career at the age of 9, expressed frustration with the lack of safeguards on social media platforms that allow for the creation and dissemination of harmful content. "I used to have a Twitter account, and they were like, 'Oh, you have to do this, you have to create your image,'" she recalled. "But after the show came out, there was a flood of messages – these absurd images and photos, and I was already confused, so I just deleted it."

Despite the challenges she faced as a young actress, Ortega remains grateful for her experiences. "There are times when I regret it; there are times when my parents regret it," she said. "But looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. I love that now when I go on set, I’m incredibly aware."

Ortega's decision to leave Twitter is a stark reminder of the growing concerns about the misuse of AI technology and the need for stricter regulations to protect vulnerable individuals, especially minors.
